New year, new goals! As we approach the new year, I’ve taken the last week of the year to update my Money and Action Plan (or MAP discussed in Unindebted, the Course) and researched new ways to cut down monthly expenses. My goal for 2021 is to increase my savings and cutting down my expenses allows me to allocate my money toward this goal.

If #OwningYourCheck is also a lifestyle goal for you in 2021, I want to share some the money-savings tips that I’ve learned and will continue to implement next year.

Y’all, it’s even tips on saving money at Target, gas stations, clothes and food. 🙌 #WeLoveToSeeIt

Read Them Below!

  1. Request a book at your local library instead of purchasing.

  2. Check your Health Insurance for affordable or free gym memberships. (Ask HR if your employer has a gym reimbursement plan.)

  3. Barter services with a professional to save money. (Trade time for money instead. Make sure it’s equitable and it makes sense.)

  4. Look for restaurants that offer FREE kid’s meals!

  5. Purchase cheaper produce at your local Farmer’s Market instead of the grocery store.

  6. Remember sale periods: Winter clothes should be purchased in Spring, purchase Summer clothes in the Fall.

  7. Negotiate your phone or cable bill to a cheaper price. (I have a video on how to do this on my IGTV. Follow @ownyourcheck)

  8. Opt for lunch dates instead of dinner dates. Lunch options can be cheaper than dinner!

  9. Earn cash-back rewards or points when shopping with credit cards. (Responsibly, of course!)

  10. Become a member and shop at Safeway, Hy-vee, etc... You can get $0.10/gallon off your gas at their stations!

  11. Target’s toy sales are January and July. Stock up and save earlier for special occasions.

  12. Rent a tool instead of purchasing it at Home Depot, or purchase “oops paint” instead of full-priced cans.
